Hello, everyone! My name is Keila Joy Fisher听鈥�21. I’m a senior from Monrovia, CA (about 30-40 minutes from campus). I am a double major in Psychology at Scripps and Theater at Pomona College.听My commitment to the theater department takes up quite a bit of my time, as I am also involved in the 5C club, The Green Room, which is a student-run theater company that puts on multiple productions a semester.听When I am not rehearsing for a show on Pomona鈥檚 campus, I enjoy听relaxing and eating lunch on听one of our many grass听areas or studying with my friends in a dorm Browsing Room.听听
Every semester at Scripps has challenged听me, educated me beyond my expectations, and introduced me to some amazing people.听Through the CORE program, fulfilling my breadths of study requirements, and taking courses within my majors,听I have been able to pursue every one of my interests and passions in some capacity.听With infinite time and space in my schedule, I would have also majored in English and Art History, but through the CORE program听and being able to study abroad in Florence, Italy, I have been able to satisfy my interests听in both areas.听The courses offered at Scripps, and听in听the consortium, are so engaging, that in many cases, students鈥� favorite courses听are听often听outside of their major departments. My all-time favorite class was You Vs the Garlic Bread She Tell You Not to Worry About听taught by听Adam Novy,听a writing course blending media studies with memes.听While that sounds like a complete joke, my classmates and I participated in intellectual conversations about what constitutes art, and how it can be textually defined. My final paper was听2,000 words听about the band Smash Mouth and the Shrek franchise. I finished that class knowing that if I could write听2,000听words听analyzing a handful of memes on a ridiculous subject with听scholarly sources to support my analysis,听no college paper听about听a real topic听could faze me.听听
Now almost听four听years听after听I first听toured Scripps as a rising senior in high school, I could not be happier with my decision to attend this college. If I was given the opportunity to attend any听university or college in the world听of my choosing, I would听still choose Scripps. No institution is without its faults, but it is during those times听in particular听that I am just blown away by听the intellect, passion, and determination of my peers. Attending Scripps means to be among a community听of compassionate,听skilled, and courageous听people ready and able to change the world for the better. To stand beside by peers as their equal is an honor.听听
