Spotlight on Academics: Core III Symposium Student Projects Explore Art, Activism, Math, and More

Scripps Tea provided the setting for Core III students to present their independently researched and designed final projects last week. Faculty, students, and friends from the Scripps community gathered in support and recognition of the presenters and to celebrate their considerable achievements.

The presentations mark students’ culmination of Scripps’s unique Core Curriculum in Interdisciplinary Humanities, a series of three courses taught over three continuous semesters that begin students’ first semester on campus. With the shared Core Program theme Histories of the Present as its focus, Core III courses are small seminars often co-taught by two or more professors from disparate fields of study. Students and faculty work collaboratively on research topics of interest. This year’s projects explored the experiences of women pursuing STEM fields, the relationship between art and activism, and the differences between French and American culture, among other topics.
